Starting April 23rd and continuing every other Tuesday through November 5, from 9 - 11 AM
Learn gardening tips from our Resident Master Gardener while helping to care for the flower and native plant beds on Market grounds.
To participate, you must bring your own gloves and wear them while volunteering. Let us know if you don’t have a pair and we may be able to provide them. Sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, and other weather appropriate attire is recommended.

Required Skills and Abilities
Volunteers should be comfortable working outside and getting a little dirty! Gardening can be strenuous work and may require bending and squatting as well as lifting and carrying heavy materials. It is advised to be well hydrated and to wear sunscreen and appropriate clothing for the tasks.
Rules and Procedures
No pesticides, insecticides, weed killer, etc., are to be used without the express permission of the FSM Board of Directors due to the food products being sold. Garden Club work is only to be done when the market is inactive and under supervision of Market staff or a Master Gardener.

Saturdays from 8 AM-2 PM, May - October
This position can be a lot of fun for those who enjoy interacting with the public and it is a great way to meet new people. Working first hand with our Food Assistance Programs, you will get to see the impact they have on our community’s ability to access healthy and nutritious food. This volunteer role will serve to support a staff member or intern who will be managing the desk. Training will occur on the job and volunteers will be supervised.
Associated Tasks
Greeting customers and helping to answer questions about the market
Processing customer transactions including food assistance and merch sales
Required skills
Ability to perform cash transactions, count change, use an electronic point of sale device, write and record information
Good people skills, clear communication, and ability to work with a diverse population
This position does not require standing, volunteers can remain seated at the desk if necessary

Saturdays from 1:15 - 3:30 PM, June - October
We will need 4-6 volunteers each Saturday from June through October. These volunteers will help collect and weigh donated produce from farmers at the end of Saturday markets to be distributed to Heartside neighborhood residents. Volunteers must have their own transportation to the Market and drop-off locations. If driving a vehicle, please park in the Salvation Army lot on the corner of Fulton and Fuller, not in the Market parking lot.
Associated Tasks
Use a cart and crates to collect produce from farmers
Weigh donated produce and pack it for distribution
Optional: travel to one or more neighborhood drop-off locations and help unload crates and set up produce for distribution to community members
Required Skills/Abilities
Lift and carry up to 40lbs
Walk up and down the market pushing a heavy cart
